Bitter Orange essential oil has a delicate, fresh citrus aroma with floral undertones. It is a calming, soothing and uplifting oil which shares many properties with Orange Sweet, Neroli and Petitgrain.

The bitter orange tree (Citrus aurantium var. amara) is also known as the Seville or Sour orange. It originated from Southeast Asia but is now commonly found in the Mediterranean region, the United States and South America. Bitter Orange essential oil is derived from the outer peel of the orange fruit with the same tree also producing Petitgrain from the leaves and twigs, and Neroli from the fragrant white flowers.

Bitter Orange essential oil has antibacterial, antiseptic, astringent and anti-inflammatory properties which are particularly useful for dull, oily, congested and acne prone skin.

Bitter Orange oil has a soothing, uplifting effect on the emotions and a mild sedative action. Useful for stress/anxiety related disorders and insomnia. Can also help to dispel anger and frustration.

Bitter Orange essential oil is beneficial for the digestive system and can help to combat constipation, diarrhea, flatulence and stomach cramps. It can also be useful in winter for colds and flu.
