Bay (Laurel) (laurus nobilis)

Bay oil has a fresh, srong but sweet, camphoraceous and slightly spicy odor. It is especially good for the digestive and respiratory systems. It is also known as laurel, sweet bay, true bay and Mediterranean bay.

The composition of Bay is outstanding; it contains constituents from almost all of the functional groups – Oxides, Alcohols, Phenols and Esters. This explains its multitude of uses. It is therefore beneficial for the digestive system – as an appetite stimulant, but also to expel wind, settle stomach pain and it has a tonic effect on the liver and kidneys.

Its antiseptic properties are good for the respiratory system and it is an expectorant with mucolytic properties. It is therefore indicated for use in a diffuser or inhalation, blended with a carrier oil or lotion as a chest rub or used in the bath.

Bay is recommended to treat skin conditions such as ulcers, boils and acne. It is also good for oily skin.
