Most of us are familiar with turmeric as one of the principal ingredients in curries and curry powder as well as being more widely used as a food colouring. Turmeric (Curcuma longa) has deep traditional roots in Indian medicine where it has been used for centuries. Much of the recent interest in this fascinating ingredient has focussed on one of the main components, curcumin. Curcumin and Turmeric are often spoken about as if they are the same thing. This is not the case. Curcumin is just one component of the whole Turmeric herb – Turmeric actually provides over 200 different, potentially beneficial, compounds.
Some medical herbalists prefer to use whole herb products, whilst others suggest that high curcumin extracts are best. Therefore, our Turmeric, a unique combination providing both an extract with a high curcumin content plus a whole herb turmeric supports either philosophy. This combination provides 200mg of curcumin per capsule and is the equivalent of consuming 8200mg of turmeric root. We choose to utilise the natural oils in the whole herb Turmeric to support the absorption of curcumin rather than adding black pepper which can potentially interfere with many prescription medications. The capsules are free from gluten, wheat and lactose and are also suitable for those following a vegan diet.
